Internal audit

Internal audit

We assess how effectively business processes and internal controls work, establishing whether they function properly and which areas need further attention.

As a company grows, so do the complexity of its processes, the number of responsibilities, and the need for effective controls. By analysing the processes, testing the controls and assessing the risks, we identify the weaknesses and the opportunities for improvement. Our recommendations help problems to be recognised early, reduce the chance of errors recurring, and improve how the work is organised.

What you receive

  • An annual internal audit plan, matched to the needs of the company and to the risks assessed.
  • Reports on each audit performed, setting out the findings, the causes established and the recommendations for improvement.
  • A risk and control matrix, with defined responsibilities for monitoring and carrying out the control activities.
  • Written working procedures, ready for practical use and for better management of business processes.

Internal audit

What the engagement covers

  • Designing, documenting and testing the internal control framework.
  • The internal audit function: fully outsourced, or supporting an existing team.
  • Process mapping and risk assessment, with a risk and control matrix.
  • Audit of individual processes: procurement, sales and collection, cash, payroll, inventory, fixed assets.
  • Forensic review where irregularities or losses to the company are suspected.
  • Reporting to owners and the board, with follow-up on recommendations implemented.

Who we work with

Who the services are for

  • Growing companies whose existing control systems need to be adapted to the increased volume and complexity of the work.
  • Companies with a statutory obligation or a business need for internal audit that want a proper review of their processes and controls.
  • Owners and managers not directly involved in day-to-day operations who need an independent view of how the company is running.
  • Companies preparing for investor entry or bank financing that want to improve their internal controls, procedures and transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about this service

External, statutory audit gives an opinion on the financial statements and primarily serves third parties; it is carried out by licensed audit firms. Internal audit serves the owner and management, checking whether processes and controls work as intended.

A full function usually does not. But a focused review of the two or three processes where most of the money moves, such as collection, cash and procurement, regularly pays for itself even in small companies.

Yes. That is usually how we start: one process, concrete findings, written recommendations. If broader work is needed afterwards, we continue in order of risk.
